Adopted budget totals: not yet published
Jackson's FY2027 budget was still in discussion — it appeared as "DISCUSS BUDGET FY2027" at a special called meeting on October 17, 2026 — and adopted budget totals had not been published in the sources checked for this dashboard.
Rather than fill this space with estimates, this panel will carry the adopted General Fund and total budget figures once the city publishes them. Everything shown on this page is limited to actions on the council record.
Until the city publishes budget or audit documents, the linked meeting record is the public source for now: the July 21, 2026 council agenda — which carried the “Pat Muse Audit Report” item — and Citizen Portal’s Jackson council coverage. (Links open in a new tab.)
The millage rollback, explained
What the council's September 1 vote actually did.
On September 1, 2026, the City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-007, rolling back the city millage rate for tax year 2026. Had the rate not been rolled back, it would have stood at 4.088 mills.
A rollback trims the rate so rising property values don't quietly become a tax increase. The motion was made by Councilwoman Jeanette Riley and seconded by Councilman Don Cook. The final rolled-back rate was not stated in the meeting coverage checked.
Downtown spotlight — the DDA at work
The Downtown Development Authority reported on August 19, 2026 that vendor fees for its Christmas Market on the courthouse square had already covered the cost of the venue. A "festival of trees" is planned alongside it, and the DDA — chaired by Laura Carter — was seeking a liability insurance quote for the event.
